What is the PEAK Project?

Vision

We envision a world in which knowledge is created and learned for the public good.

Mission

The PEAK Project promotes community-engaged teaching and learning at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ to connect campus knowledge and community impact.

To work toward this vision and fulfill the mission, we:

  1. Educate stakeholders about best practices
  2. Connect Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ educators, students, and partners to co-create: courses that provide opportunity to teach for community impact and learn about changemaking, and
  3. Promote community-engaged teaching, learning, and research at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ through recruiting, advocating, and storytelling efforts

How does the program work?

The visual below summarizes the process through which we connect Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ educators to community partners to co-create community-engaged learning classroom projects.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ educators, students, and partners learn about best practices of community-engaged teaching and learning through Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵE workshops and resources.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ educators propose a course they'd like to connect to community work. A Call for Interest of Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ faculty and staff educators will be held blocks 1-2 (for spring courses), half block and block 5 (for summer courses) and 7-8 (for fall courses).

Community partners propose possible connections to Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ courses. A Call for Interest of community partners will be held October and November (for spring courses), February and March (for summer courses), and May and June (for fall courses).  .

The Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵE seeks to match educator expertise and interests to the mission, goals, or needs of a community partner. If we can’t find a match that cycle, we can try again the next cycle.

If matched, educators and partners co-create a project that both promotes student learning or intellectual discovery, and create meaningful community impact, with Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵE staff as thought partners and resources as needed.
