Global & Field Experiences at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ
Welcome to the Center for Global Education & Field Study, a member of Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ's Experiential Education coalition.Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ, with our unique Block Plan, offers a more flexible and more diverse portfolio of off-campus experiences than pretty much any other college or university. This page is designed to give you an idea of what is possible at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ, from simple day trips with a course to complete blocks offered around the world as well as semester and year away options. |
Where We Go
It might actually be easier to list the places Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ students don't go. Since the Fall of 2021, we have offered a combination of faculty-led or partner-led study away programming in 57 nations across 6 continents, including many destinations where students can choose between a faculty-led block away or a longer Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ or Partner-led semester option.
Add to this more than 300 Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ field study courses each year, where students spent anywhere from a day to 10 days away from campus, and it is easy to see that the state, the region, the nation, and the world are all landing spots for Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ students, whether they are traveling with a class and a Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ faculty member, joining a global partner program, or exploring on their own through a sponsored research trip.
Options & Opportunities for Every Student, Every Major, Every Learning Path
Field Study at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ
Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ faculty utilize the block plan in innovative ways to take students the community, the state, the region, and across the country. From day trips to full weeks away during a block, Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ students are not confined to the campus or the classroom.
Here are just a few examples of Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ courses with Field Study components:

Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Blocks Away
In addition to on-campus courses with field study, Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ offers 25-30 off-campus blocks, or Blocks Away, each year. These are courses taught by Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ faculty and sitting squarely in the curriculum of the college, but offered anywhere from Chicago to Shanghai.
And while some schools offer 1-course short-programs only in January or May, at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ, every block from September through Summer is a chance to take a course away from campus and we typically see courses offered off-campus in at least 6 of 8 blocks during the year and in the summer as well.
All Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Blocks Away are Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ credit, no transfer required, and all are taught by Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ faculty and filled with your fellow Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ students, creating a learning community that shares the experience with you. It is a unique study away opportunity, perfect for both the new traveler and the experienced globetrotter.

Career Catalyst Blocks
Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ’s Career Catalyst Program brings professional experience into the classroom, and Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ students out into the real world. These immersive courses connect liberal arts learning to hands-on, curriculum-connected projects in a wide range of industries. Career Catalyst courses are designed and led by faculty in partnership with the organizations, with students working in teams to solve problems, collaborate with professionals, and gain the confidence and skills needed to thrive after college.

Language Immersion Programs
Colorado offers opportunities for extended linguistic immersion through 2-block and 4-block experiences abroad. All Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ language immersion programs are led by Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ faculty, offering Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ credit with no transfer needed, and align perfectly with our calendar so that a 2-block experience on campus can be paired with 2 more blocks on campus in the same semester.
Here are examples of our language immersion destinations:
Visit our Semesters Away page to learn more about both the full semester (4-block) and half-semester (2-block) options. Our Summer in Spain program can be found on our Current Year Blocks Away page as a summer option.
Semester or Year Away
The Center for Global Education & Field Study curates a pool of more than 150 different partner-sponsored semester and academic year opportunities, including exchange and direct enrollment at global universities, multi-disciplinary programs across all fields of study, and targeted deep-engagement programs within specific fields.
With all partner semesters, Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ students are asked to pay the standard Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ semester tuition and the program charges for housing, meal plans, and insurance, which allows their Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ financial aid to travel with them and making it possible for a student to select a program without concern of a higher semester expense than they would expect if they were on campus.
