NEH Professorship

The NEH Distinguished Teaching Professorship in the Humanities at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ is an endowed professorship which rotates among tenured faculty in the Humanities. In addition to supporting dynamic teaching and event in the Humanities, each NEH Professorship focuses on a theme, question, or topic within the Humanities. This NEH Professorship's theme is "Foregrounding the Humanities in the Liberal Arts," with special attention to the arts and museums. I aim to center the Humanities by building on existing strengths through collaboration and co-creation of events and programs, and fostering the capacity of Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ faculty to “dream big” as teachers. I am particularly inspired by Prof. Dan Tynan (the inaugural NEH Professor)"s commitment back in 1995 to “explor[ing] even more fully the place of the humanities within the curriculum and within today’s unsettled intellectual atmosphere.” My goal is to develop and celebrate the Humanities as a central, connected, meaningful, and vibrant part of the College’s liberal arts education, and ensure a strong and dynamic future for the Humanities at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ.
